Your Rights and Responsibilities as an Owner

A community is a place you want to call home and where you feel at home. Being part of a community means sharing with your neighbors a common desire to promote harmony and contentment. This goal is best achieved when homeowners and association leaders recognize and accept their rights and responsibilities. This entails striking a reasonable, logical balance between the best interests of individual owners and those of the community as a whole. In this presentation our goal is to create an understanding of what this means specifically for homeowners and how they can be a positive resident in their community.

The Importance of Compliance with Covenants and Rules

When residents don’t see a need for covenants and rules, when rules are perceived as being arbitrary and unreasonable, when there is an attitude of “my home is my castle” and I can do anything I want, compliance with covenants and rules becomes a significant problem. In this presentation we discuss the need for covenants and rules, what makes a good rule, why it is sometimes necessary to fine or sue owners who violate the covenants and rules, and the procedures or steps the association can take to enforce the covenants and rules. Owners will come away with an appreciation of why voluntary compliance is so important and the consequences of not complying.
